Biography
Chloe Shekinah Resler is a vocalist, fiddler, and dulcimist originally from Colorado's Front Range and currently based in Los Angeles. As one of the co-founders of Magpie the Band, she played at IBMA's 2023 Ramble Showcase and across Northern Colorado; in 2025, she was an Azrieli Scholarship recipient at KlezKanada. She encountered folk traditions as part of the University of Northern Colorado's Bluegrass and Alternative Styles Ensembles. Her music has been described as "casual and conversational" (by Bandwagon Magazine in 2021), and she believes that music should be both honest and fun for everyone.
She completed both a bachelor's of Jazz Performance and a master's of Music History and Literature at UNCo. During her time there, she earned an Outstanding Performance from the Downbeat Awards as part of Vocal Lab, and recorded a solo jazz album, Amazilia, in 2019. She also wrote Chapter 10, "The Rise of Queermisia in Jazz: Medicalization, Legalization, and Its Effects" for The Routledge Companion to Jazz and Gender (2022). In 2025, Chloe began working on a research fellowship at the University of Denver and the Beck Archives, where she is currently studying the history of Yiddish song in Denver.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, through a series of outdoor rehearsals and a microphone set up in her apartment living room, both Magpie the Band and their first live album, Under the Maple Tree, were born. Their sound is a mix of old time, bluegrass, and klezmer traditions. They played at the IBMA Conference in September of 2023 . Chloe is currently teaching high school music by day and has played at the Skirball Cultural Center, Collage San Pedro, and Kosher QueerFest with Seamus Guy as Der Goldener Feygl, as well as being a member of the UCLA Klezmer Ensemble and occasionally sitting in with Mostly Kosher. She's excited to keep growing and learning, and to dive deeper into tradition and creativity.
